Parra: The Disco of Italo

Piet Parra is form Holland and he’s considered as a master in illustrations, graphics designing and communication. He also founded a clothing line called Rockwell Clothing and he’s a dj and musician in Lele and Parra Soundsytem band. Parra was a skater and started like self-taught, designing graphics for clothes, album covers, posters and flyers and became quickly quite famous in the indie scene. “The Disco of Italo” is his funny tribute to “Italo Disco” phenomenon, a kind of house music produced in Italy during the eighties, and it’s also the title of the exhibition. On the occasion of the opening at Galleria Patricia Armocida, Parra presents new serigraphies, canvas, original drawings, posters and a specific site installation.
His aesthetics count on themes and patterns that easily became the hallmark of his style: plan colours to the maximum of saturation level, vibrant typographic lettering hand-drawn in a world full of hybrid characters, queer and surreal.
Man with bird-heads, carnal and voluptuous women with rotund and sensual bodies combined with sarcastic and also more introspective themes, getting until the “non sense”. Don’t miss it on Tuesday 19th/6.30 pm!
