The cleaners wear Prada

Michael Nyman video “Cleaners Wear Prada” was presented On world premiere at the Fashion Museum at Palazzo Morando.
The new exhibition space will host from 25th to 30th May “A shaded view on Fashion Film”, the first fashion film festival created by Diane Pernet, pioneering journalist and blogger, among the first to believe in the video as a new language for the fashion.

“Cleaners wear Prada” is the only Nyman video where the link with fashion world is evident, as we can guess from the title. As Nyman said, his videos and photos are absolutely random, apparently the result of an “accident.”
With a technique-no technique and low-fi results , the video tells the history of two window cleaners working at the legendary Prada store in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan.
Nyman has followed the movements and gestures of the two unwitting actors in the early morning, he had just left the hotel, when his curiosity was caught by this scene.

After creating wonderful soundtracks for films by Peter Greenaway and Jan Champion, Nyman casually became a photographer and film director. You can see a series of photos taken during his travels – in agreement with the structural view of his music – and a series of videos: unpublished collection by Diane Pernet at Galleria Carla Sozzani Cine Opera.
This collection shows everyday life episodes tied to tradition, when in the video, sometimes even without soundtrack,  some old men from the south of Italy play ancient Morra game, inside an extravagant mix of local sounds and his musical repertoire.

Sunday Brunch – Five Minute Spring Brunch

The recipe is for four friends, I divided it in half  when there’s only two of you for brunch this Sunday.

Be sure to rinse the vegetables and cooked eggs in very cold water to stop the cooking process. Should the eggs be creamy and soft on the inside. Then peel under cold running water and cut in half them carefully.

Some nice toasted sourdough bread to go along with your salad and make yourself a nice cup of tea or maybe even a good old glass of prosecco would be great too!

Anyway, enjoy! I will post a new brunch recipe soon, so stay tuned!

Back with The Libertines

Probably right now everybody knows next summer will be Time for Heroes again. Finally the two lads are back together again and The Libertines will perform to headline 2010 Leeds and Reading Festivals.

But, if you are planning to spend your Easter Holidays in London, we kindly suggest you not to miss Mister Pete Doherty playing a solo concert at the Blues Kitchen on April 3.

Well, we should say the Doherties, since the opening act will be The Ezra Beats, Pete’s sister Amy-Jo’s band. Plaese take note, it will be a matinee show, so be prepared to be outside the venue at 3 pm.

And hope from the bottom of your heart that Pete will not be late as usual, or in jail, or… well, whatever.

Robert Geller x Common Projects

One of mens fashion’s more recent deities, Robert Geller, whose understated dandy Japan-crafted threads has garnered him veneration and hype the world over, has teamed up for a cooperative line with Common Projects, the Manhattan shoemaker adored for its elegantly simple, seriously cool, handmade-in-Italy shoes.

The resulting collection’s roots sprouted from a pair of boots CP made for Geller’s last runway show. This time around, however, the two labels tossed their normal strong suits/comfort zones aside for creativity’s sake: Common Projects designed the clothes, Geller designed the shoes.
Then they each became the producer of the other’s work, with the Geller-designed shoes produced by CP and the CP designed clothes tailored and constructed by Geller. The best of both worlds, so to speak.

Complimenting the collection beautifully, its lookbook is printed on convincingly antique paper and bound and frayed to look as if decades of wear were underneath its belt. The book is filled with photos of the collection set against backgrounds of early 20th century photos of landmarks around Italy. Looking like a well-loved old book sacrificed (to fashion posterity), the architectural-digest-cum-lookbook (as well as the serene, clean photos of the collection within) are the work of Peter Poopat of Common Projects.
